MIAC Release
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Bethel University's
Andreas Scott (Jr., Cedar, Minn.),
Brandon Peplinski (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) and
Nick Kantor (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.) were named in today's MIAC awards for the 2009 season. Scott was among the players selected as an All-MIAC athlete.
As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC announced the fourth annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for men's soccer. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. Kantor represents Bethel on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team.
Scott was Bethel's lone All-MIAC selection and he led the team in points, goals, assists, and shots. Playing in every game, he compiled 27 points on eight goals and 11 assists. He was a leader for the Royals from start to finish, setting up teammates and causing opponents to account for his skill. His 56 points ranks fifth on Bethel's all-time list.
Peplinski received All-MIAC Honorable Mention for the second year in a row. He was second on the team with 15 points, scoring six goals along with three assists. He netted the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over St. Thomas, and his constant attacking from the striker position put pressure on opposing defenses.
Along with the sportsmanship award, Kantor was also selected to the All-MIAC Honorable Mention team. He started all of the Royals' games, posting a 1.32 goals against average, while making 120 saves. His 22 saves in a shut out against Augsburg College allowed Bethel to win 1-0, despite the offense only putting one shot on goal. For the year, Kantor had four shut outs and a record of 8-6-2. These were his first two All-MIAC awards.
