ST. PAUL, Minn. - Bethel University's
Dan Greeno (Sr., St. Michael, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Cross Country Most Valuable Athlete for 2009.
Greeno came away with his first MIAC men's cross country championship in blustery conditions on Oct. 31. He finished the race in 25:21, putting him 34 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. He was the only Bethel runner to make the All-Conference team and helped lead the Royals to a seventh place finish. This is Greeno's fourth straight year as a all-conference runner but his first time receiving Most Valuable Athlete.
Rounding out the awards for Bethel was
Matt McKeever (So., Hutchinson, Minn.), who was Bethel's representative to the All-MIAC Men's Cross Country Sportsmanship Team. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
Greeno and the Royals next scheduled meet is the NCAA regional meet in Grinnell, Iowa, on Nov. 14. Last year, Greeno placed second overall, earning him another trip to the NCAA national meet.
