MIAC Release

ST. PAUL, Minn.
- Bethel University's David Vavra (So., Cambridge, Minn.) has been named a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his performance last weekend.

Vavra helped lead the team in tackles with eight (five solo, three assists), including one for a loss, but it was his two interceptions and a fumble recovery that stopped three Hamline Piper drives in Bethel's 20-17 win on Saturday. Both of Vavra's interceptions came in Bethel territory, with the first coming at the halfway point of the first quarter. He then recovered a fumble early in the fourth quarter with the score tied at 17. The very next Piper possession, he made his second interception of the game and his third of the season. So far this season, Vavra leads the Royals in pass breakups, is second in interceptions, and third in tackles.

Vavra is sharing his award with Alex Glasenaap of Augsburg. The Royals will enjoy a bye this weekend before returning to action against Gustavus in St. Peter, Minn., on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m.
