MENOMONIE, Wis. - Two weeks into the indoor track and field season, and the Bethel Royals are already looking pretty sharp in some areas. The team headed east to participate in the UW-Stout Open today and had three first place finishes, as well as three second place finishes.

Eric Rhode (Jr., Oakdale, Minn.) defeated his nearest competition in the 400 meter dash by 0.91 seconds, while All-MIAC cross country runner Tyler Hinrichs (Sr., Clara City, Minn.) had a much more narrow margin of victory in the 800 meter run. His time of 1:57.69 was just 0.22 seconds faster than that of the second place runner.

One of the strengths of last year's team, both indoor and outdoor, was the 4 x 400 meter relay team. Today proved to be no exception as the team, comprised of Rhode, Zach Schlegel (So., Woodbury, Minn.), Joel Quick (Jr., Johnston, Iowa) and Taylor Ferda (Jr., Whitefish, Mont.), cruised to a win of more than a second with a time of 3:27.08.

Individually, Ferda finished second in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.04 seconds, and
Jay Quick
(So., Edina, Minn.) also took home second place honors as they finished a second behind Division II Concordia St. Paul with a time of 1:32.57.

The Royals are scheduled to have a week off before returning to the friendly confines of the Sports and Recreation Center on the campus of Bethel University for the Bethel Invitational on February 7th.
