MIAC Release
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Bethel University goaltender
Beth Spurrier (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Athlete of the Week for her performances during the week of December 1.
Spurrier was a key factor in helping Bethel earn their first ever point against Gustavus in the conference standings as the Royals and #6 Gusties skated to a 1-1 tie last Friday. The three-time all-conference goalie saved 30 of the 31 shots on goal that came her way in 65 minutes of play. She then went on to record 43 saves the following afternoon, shutting Gustavus out for the first 45 minutes of the game and allowing just one goal. The last time a MIAC goalie limited the Gusties to just two goals in a two-game series was in 1999, and Bethel became the first team to earn a point in the conference standings against Gustavus since February of 2007. Spurrier currently has the second highest save percentage and fourth lowest goals against average among MIAC goalies in conference play.
The Royals are scheduled to take on UW-River Falls on Tuesday, December 9, in Wisconsin beginning at 7:05 p.m. for their next game.
