ABERDEEN, S.D. - In dire need of a turnaround game, the Royals had their strongest outing today and recorded a 9-0 win over the Presentation Saints.
Esther Sowles (Sr., Waconia, Minn.) had three goals today, giving her four on the season and 22 in her career, which moves her into third place in Bethel's record book.
Brittany Griffore (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season, giving her four goals in the last three games. The starting forward also had two assists, including one on the game-winning goal, scored by
Krista Polding (So., Waconia, Minn.) 3:22 into the game. Polding went on to record an assist on the next goal for a total of three points in the game.
Other key performances from today's game include a goal and two assists by
Sophie Christiansen (Fr., Portland, Ore.), giving her 23 points on the season.
Kristin Kishaba (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis.) and
Ashley Pound (Fr., Plymouth, Minn.) each added a goal as well to round out Bethel's scoring.
Bethel produced some staggering numbers during the 90 minutes, including 58 shots. Saints goalkeeper Rachel Scott had her hands full, stopping 26 of 35 shots on goal.
Defensively, the Royals limited the Saints to just three shots and only one shot on goal. That lone shot on goal was stopped by
Alyssa Riggs (So., Columbia Heights, Minn.), who played a majority of the game in front of the net for Bethel.
The Royals break out of their winless streak to improve to 7-6-1 overall and 4-0 against Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) teams this season. Meanwhile, Presentation falls to 1-10-1 on their season. Bethel is scheduled to return to Arden Hills to play their first home game in more than a month this Friday when they square off against Augsburg at 4 p.m.
