BLAINE, Minn.
- A large crowd was on hand at Bethel University Arena to see the Royals win their third conference game in a row over the St. John's Johnnies 2-1.

Christian Fogerty (Fr., Forest Lake, Minn.) scored his sixth goal of the season midway through the first period with the help of Don Hochbrunn (Jr., Circle Pines, Minn.) to put Bethel up 1-0.

Tom Menozzi (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) added to Bethel's lead early in the second period by scoring his first collegiate goal with the help of older brother Bill Menozzi (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) and Steve Eastman (Sr., Edina, Minn.).

St. John's got on the board with 5:43 remaining in the second period when Jason Weigel scored a power play goal with the assists going to Jordan Swan and Joel Stacklie.

The Royals won despite being outshot by a 2:1 ratio, 36-18.  Aaron Damjanovich (So., Remer, Minn.) was able to save 35 of those shots, enabling Bethel to hang on for the victory.

Bethel is now 8-2 overall and 3-2 in the MIAC.  St. John's drops to 4-6-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference.  The same two teams will face off again tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.

Athletes of the Week
Heather Jelen
Women's Cross Country
Heather Jelen (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) will join fellow Bethel runners Marie Borner and Dan Greeno at the NCAA Cross Country national championship meet thanks to her performance last weekend. Jelen finished 15th out of 183 runners with a time of 22:36 to secure her second straight appearance at the national meet. As a team, the Royals finished 8th out of 26 squads.
Kyle Dynan
Men's Hockey
Kyle Dynan (Sr., Orono, Minn.) was a major factor in Bethel's 2-0 conference start as he earned five points in both victories over Saint John's last weekend. The senior defenseman took just two shots on goal, but made them both count as he scored a goal early in the third period on Friday night to help Bethel take a 3-2 lead in a game the Royals eventually won 5-3; and then on Saturday, he scored what proved to be the game-winning goal late in the second period of Bethel's 3-1 win. Dynan also added three assists to give him a five-point weekend, and the Royals were the only active team to win their first two games of the MIAC season.
